support that’s actually designed for beginners

our method

you do not need a perfect 12 weeks

Learning movements, getting comfy in the gym, understanding how to choose weights and how best to schedule your training week all take time. Mistakes and trial and error are important. With us, you will not get things perfect (because no one does), but you can never get it wrong. We do not coach outcomes; we coach humans. We will give you guidance, understanding and a place for your questions.

video feedback builds confidence

You coach will deliver movement & training feedback weekly in response to the videos and notes you submit on your program. This means you can be confident you’re moving well, and always know what you’re working on. Video feedback also helps you understand why you’re doing things, what they should feel like, and if you’re using the right weights, so you never feel like you’re just showing up for the sake of it.

performance over aesthetics

Your program is built around movement skills, and strength and fitness improvement. Our coaching language and video feedback create a constant performance focus. By driving attention to performance, we can develop a deep appreciation and pride in what our bodies can do, and we don’t have to be elite athletes or feel like we’re exceptional at something, to develop this.

check-in calls and flexible programming

Check-in calls are included in your subscription, so we’re always here to have a chat. Sometimes video feedback doesn’t cover the bigger questions, or we might need more information about your schedule, medical changes or discomfort you’re experiencing so we can program accordingly. Sustainable training is all about making the plan fit the season you’re in, and these calls are an essential piece of that.

strength training is just skill learning, and everyone can learn

the problems with the fitness industry

commercial gyms run on a breakage model

Busy gyms and equipment turnover cost them a lot, so they want you paying for more visits than you actually show up for. By making the space physically and culturally unwelcoming, you’re either less likely to show up, or more likely to buy sessions with a PT, who is paying them rent. When you don’t stay consistent, they sell you ‘discipline’ language, so you blame yourself, instead of them.

group strength classes sell unlimited intensity

Group strength leads the charge on the ‘more is more’ paradigm, selling unlimited memberships, 50-day challenges, and programming that is not flexible or progressive, only intense. Most people, but especially beginners, require a steady approach that leaves room for learning, understanding, progressive overload and recovery. Aside from being intimidating, these classes are generally not suited to beginners. And when you don’t stay consistent, they also sell you ‘discipline’ language, so you blame yourself instead of them.

pilates girlies need more

Given that neither commercial gyms or group strength classes support beginners, it makes sense you’re in Pilates, and good on you for finding something that works. But the Pilates reformer bed was invented in WW1 for injured soldiers who had lost limbs and needed to exercise lying down. It’s an amazing tool for people who are injured. But if you’re not, improving your health, strength and fitness requires different training. Our promise to you, is that weight training is, dare we say, enjoyable when it’s actually designed for beginners.
